Fingal are FAI Ford Cup champions Sporting
Fingal capped a wonderful season by clinching a late victory over Sligo Rovers
in an absorbing FAI Ford Cup final at Tallaght Stadium on Sunday. Eoin Doyle opened
the scoring for Sligo early in the second half, but a penalty from Colm James
and an injury-time header from Gary O'Neill sealed a magnificent turnaround for
the North Dublin side. Having won promotion only last Monday night, this triumph
marks another highpoint in the short history of the club who entered the League
of Ireland only last season.

Fingal into Premier Division In
only their second year in the League of Ireland, Sporting Fingal became a Premier
Division club after beating Bray Wanderers over two-legs in the promotion/relegation
play-off. Fingal went into the 2nd leg of the
play off with a two nil advantage over their hosts, after beating Bray at rain
soaked Morton Stadium the previous week. Though
Bray had most of the possession and chance in the 2nd game at their Carlise Grounds,
Fingal's Goalie Darren Quigley had an inspired game and denied Bray on numerous
occasions. Fingal had gone in front in the 59th
minute with a goal from Fingal's prolific striker Zayed, Bray got a goal back
in the 82nd minute after John Flood lofted the ball over the Fingal Keeper. The
game was set up for a nail biting finish after Bray's Chris O'Connor headed in
a corner in the 91st minute. But directly from the kick off O'Connor turned hero
to zero after he gave the ball away to Fingal's Gary O'Neill who picked out Robert
Bayly who blasted the ball into Bray's net and secured Premier Division Football
for Sporting next season. Fingal can now make
a super season even better if they can beat Sligo Rovers in the FAI Ford Cup at
Tallaght this Sunday. Back

Fingal Title Hopes Fade It
was more two points lost than one gained for Fingal, as Shelbourne's Peter Hynes
earned his team a precious point against Fingal with an equaliser six minutes
from time in an action-packed Dublin derby last Friday night. Having
had Robert Bayly dismissed for a second booking on 65minutes, Conan Byrne fired
Fingal into the lead five minutes later with a free-kick before adding a second
on 73 minutes. However
Fingal's goalkeeper Darren Quigley gifted Shels a route back by spilling David
McGill's cross into his net 14 minutes from time and Hynes made it 2-2 with a
deft chip with six minutes to go. The
draw gives Shelbourne a three point lead over Fingal with also a game in hand
and makes Fingal's title hopes a outside chance at this stage with only four games
remaining in the campaign but Fingal are still in the race for a palyoff place
in the promotion race. Meanwhile
tickets have official gone on sale for the upcoming FAI Ford Cup Semi-Final against

Half Display Wins Fingal Deserved Replay In
a pulsating FAI Cup quarter final tie, enjoyed by a crowd of over 1,500 fans at
Morton (Santry) Stadium on Saturday night, Sporting Fingal fought back in the
2nd half after trailing by two goals against Shamrock Rovers at half time. Levelling
the game and earning themselves a reply against their premier league opponents.
Fingal had started lively with two chances early
on in the game but Shamrock Rovers hit back and narrowly missed a chance to score
when a Free Kick by Rovers player Robinson came off the cross bar after beating
the keeper. However Rovers went ahead shortly afterwards as Dessie Baker was put
through on Fingal's goal and slotted his shoot past the Fingal Keeper in the 27th
minute and then only three minutes later Fingal went two down after a stunning
twenty yard strike by Rovers player Ross Chisholm ended up in the top corner of
Fingal's goal. However Fingal emerged fired
up after the break and immediately had Rovers on the back foot and after a number
of near chances scored their first goal after Shaun William stroked the ball into
the Rover's goal on the 54th minute. The equaliser came five minutes later from
the head of Shan Maher after a William's free kick. Both
sides had chances in the remaining half an hour of the game, with Fingal's goal
at times being under serious pressure, however the score remained level at the
final whistle. Setting up, what is sure to be a exciting reply, at Shamrock's
Tallaght Stadium. Back to Top

Fingal Move into 2nd Place in League Sporting Fingal
overtook UCD at second place in the league after beating the students at Morton
Stadium on Friday night. The win was courtesy
of a Alan Kirby goal in the 35th minute after UCD failed to clear a shot from
O'Neill properly letting Kirby to follow up and put the ball in the back of the
net. In fairness the result was the least the team deserved having put UCDs goal
under a lot of pressure during large parts of the game and the visitors hardly
challenging Fingal's defence. The Team and Manager
will be delighted with the result that firmly puts them back in the promotion
race behind Shelbourne at top of the table and puts them in great forum coming
up to their FAI Quarter Final game against Shamrock Rovers at Santry (Morton)

Metro
North Still on Track Another
significant milestone has been reached in the Metro North project with the announcement
of the two tenders that will proceed to the final stage of the 'PPP' procurement
competition.
Celtic Metro Group and Metro Express
have now being chosen as the final two groups and they have being asked now to
put forward final bids so that the RPA can make their decision in the final stage
of the procurement process. In the short term,
Metro North will provide an important stimulus to construction activity. The project
is expected to create 4,000 direct construction jobs and thousands more indirect
jobs. Also in recent comments by the Minister
for Transport Noel Dempsey, he has stated that at present it is the government's
intention is to go ahead with the Metro North project despite the current economic
down turn. Mr. Dempsey stated that Metro North
was one of Transport 21's two key public projects and that as soon as the tendering
and planning processes had concluded, a cost-benefit appraisal would be carried
out. He strongly believed this would prove positive for the building of Metro
North and in that case the construction of the line would commence. There
will be dedicated stops on the line at Northwood in Santry and there will also
be a stop close to DCU. The line itself will start at Stephen's Green and then
proceed to Dublin Airport and onto Swords with the last planned stop at Belinstown.

Dunne Loses Planning Appeal
Ben Dunne has lost his
appeal against the granting of planning permission for a new TLC nursing home
in Northwood Santry. Northwood Gym and Mr Dunne had appealed against the decision
by Fingal County Council granting permission back in December 2008 for the nursing
home. An Pleanala found little merit in Mr Dunne's objections
to the nursing home which included transport concerns, the mass and size of the
development, parking issues and health and safety concerns and granted permission
to TLC to build the new nursing home in Northwood. The report
even states one stage that one of the main points raised by the appellant about
an access road being designed for one way is "disingenuous". As the author of
the report goes on to point out, patrons at the Northwood Gym already use the
road in question to park their vans and have no option but use road for entrance
and exit from the club because of height restrictor's at entrance to the Gym's
own Car park. The Board of An Pleanala did put a number of
conditions on the granting of permission but these are either relatively standard
or minor. To see the Board's full ruling click

Running Track for Santry Stadium Morton
(Santry) stadium is to get a €400,000 upgrade. A new surface is to be laid on
the running track which will make it one of the best surfaces in Europe.
Fingal County Council is at present looking for a highly qualified contractor
to carry out the work which will take about five weeks to complete. The new surface
is needed since the present surface has exceeded it life span. Because
the track is so in demand there is only a small window available to carry out
the work at the end of August. The Grant money was received from the Sports Council
last year and along with being used for new surface for the main track it will
also be used to repair the indoor warm up /sprint track at the stadium. Fingal
County Council are hopeful that the new track will be laid and in use by the end

New Home Owners in Santry Lose Out As Largan Home Goes
into Examinership As
we repoted back in March there were already a number of troubling signs at the
Milners Square development just of Shanowen Road in Santry, with the developers,
contractors and buyers taking court action against each other.
Now
the situation has worsened for the potential buyers, with the news that Lagen
homes has gone into examinership and the buyers of the apartments and duplexes
who put deposits on the properties at the height of the property boom, are set
to lose all except 1pc of their money. Buyers
who bought apartments at Milner's Square, while attempting to get on to the property
ladder at the peak of the property boom, are now set to lose between €15,000 and
€20,000 each. The prospective buyers paid the
money to Largan Developments to secure up market apartments in Milners Square
north, with the expectation of moving in over a year ago. Investors were required
to pay an initial €3,000 and a further €12,000 when they signed the ill-fated
contract. The balance was payable on completions of sale. But
the collapse of the property market saw Largan go into examinership with debts
of almost €75m. At a recent creditors' meeting in Citywest Hotel, those affected
were told that they would get 1pc back on their deposits for Milner's Square in
Santry. Under the examiners' proposal, these investors will be repaid just €150
to €200. The fact that those deposits were paid
over two years ago means they are not protected by the Homebond insurance scheme
which guarantees payments for 24 months. One
crumb of comfort for the buyers affected is that Examiner Paul McCann of Grant
Thornton told the meeting in City West that because of the significant delay in
the completion of the apartments. The depositors will be permitted to exit the
contract. So at least the buyers are not stuck with apartments that are not finished
and yet are already worth far less than the agreed contract price when they put
down the deposits back in 2006. Although depositors
are unhappy with the offer of 1pc back of the orginal amount, their voices are
likely to be drowned out by business suppliers who are owed substantially more.

Over IKEA Opening Date
IKEA has said it all systems go for
next month's opening of it Dublin store despite the fact that the works on the
Ballymun interchange won't according to the NRA be completed by then. One of the
planning permission conditions states that these works have to be complete before
the store can be opened and this has already resulted in a number of public run-ins
between IKEA and the NRA. According to the NRA the works
our not planned to be finished until December and will not change it plans for
IKEA or any interested party for that matter. However it did add that the works
on interchange are actually proceeding ahead of schedule and might be complete
by September or October but they cannot see them being completed by the end of
next month. Meanwhile Fingal County Council says it being
working with all bodies involved to get the store open as soon as possible because
of the importance of the 500 new jobs to be created by the store, especially in
the light of the current economic down turn. However it notes that the contract
completion date for the upgrade of the Ballymun interchange is the end of 2009
but it goes on to say that these work our progressing well ahead of schedule.
It will be interesting to see what will happen if the works are not completed
by the planned opening date of 27th July and we will of course keep you informed
on any news on this story when and as we hear it. Banner

Rent get run at the Olympia Theatre DCU's
annual student musical is appearing in the Olympia in Dublin after been selected
for a professional run at the theatre this summer. Rent which was performed by
an all-student cast at the Helix in DCU in March will run at the Olympia from
the 15th to 20th of June.
Rent had a previous run at the Olympia
back in June 2000 where it were performed by a professional cast four year after
the show opened on Broadway to rave reviews. The Musical It
tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling
to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian
Alphabet City, under the shadow of AIDS in early 80's. Director
John Donnelly approached the Olympia about bringing Rent to their stage shortly
after the final performance at the Helix. The Olympia's decision was announced
earlier this month. The DCU production sticks religiously
to the format that originally opened in Broadway right down to the costume designs
and the set of bare metal scaffolding which is very similar to the original set
on Broadway for the musical. The success of the show is made
more amazing in that none of the cast or even drama students (Since DCU has no
Drama Department) but come from a range of back grounds and disciplines and worked
on the musical in their free time between their various lectures and course work. The
show has also being nominated for two Association of Irish Musical Societies Awards
2009, Best Show and Best Director. Rent will appear at the
Olympia from June 15th-20th. Tickets start at €20 and can be purchased from Ticketmaster Back

Plea for Action over Anti Social Behaviour on Schools Grounds
The
School grounds of the Holys Childs boys school in Santry has become a regular
haunt for youths who are dealing and taking drugs, according to a spokesperson
for the local residents' association.
Joe Dowler, chairman
of the Larkhill and District Residents' Association, said the problem has become
a thorn in the side of locals. He told Northside People that the youths trespass
on school grounds and regularly hang out in the vicinity of the PE hall.He went
on to say that problems with anti social behaviour still persist despite extra
Garda patrols in the area and believes the only solution to the issue is the instillation
of high security fencing around the school. However the school had already applied
for funding under the governments summer works scheme for fencing but has been
unsuccessful. But this may be appealed according to a department spokesman. Article

to award a penalty to Wexford youths, only to change his mind seconds later after
consulting with his assistant and instead awarded only a free kick to Wexford
Youths, that they wasted. After losing badly
to Waterford (4-1) two weeks ago, the win against Wexford and the win over UCD
last week puts Fingal right back into the promotion race. Fingal are in 3rd please
two points behind leaders UCD and one point behind 2nd Please Shelbourne, however
Shelbourne do have a game in hand. Their next
game is against Kildare County at home at Morton Stadium Santry on the 19th of
June at 7:45 pm. Back to Top

Fingal Close Gap on Leaders
Sporting
Fingal closed in on the top three when they battled past Athlone Town at Morton
Stadium, courtesy of two late goals.
In a game where Athlone
will rue missed chances, Fingal scored two goals in two minutes to seal victory,
Firstly Alan Kirby cross on 71 minutes was turned into his own net by Robbie Benson,
before Conan Byrne raced clear two minutes later and coolly rounded the Athlone
Keeper to slot home Fingal's second goal and ensure the points for the home side.
After drawing their last two league games against Limerick
and Marvue United, Fingal badly needed this win to get them back into the promotion
race. However With back-to-back league games next against
second-placed Waterford United and table-toppers UCD, Liam Buckley's Fingal side
will be in fighting form for these two games, after shortening the gap at the
top to just four points. Fingal's next home again will be
against the afore mentioned Waterford United on the Friday 22nd of May at 7:45.
It should be a great game as both team fighting for both top places in league
and promotion to the Premier division for next season. Back

St
Kevins 50th Anniversary Road League
St
Kevins Boys Club, the famous northside football nursery, is holding its 50th Anniversary
Summer Road Leagues over 3 weeks in June. St Kevin's provides football for over
800 boys from all over Dublin and the Road Leagues, which are open to anyone,
promise to be the biggest and best Road Leagues ever.
The
leagues themselves were started in the late fifties by Fr Williams and were taken
over by St Kevins club in 1960. They were designed both to spot new talent for
the club and to keep the 'fledgling' players of the newly formed Club occupied
and reasonable fit during the summer months. In
1960 there was only one age group and that was the under 16 age group. In those
days there was healthy competition and rivalry between neighbouring areas and
games between Larkhill and Thatch were not for the faint hearted. Over
the following years the leagues expanded. Under 12's were introduced in 1962,
under13's in 1964, under 14's in 1965 and finally in 1968 under 18's. With the
ongoing success of St Kevin's Boy's Football Club numbers were ever increasing
for the leagues and accordingly under 11's were introduced in 1971 with the under
15'sand under 10's starting in 1972. By
the mid 70's the leagues were thriving and no matter what was on the TV, be it
European Championships or the World Cup. Ellenfield Park was always filled with
enthusiastic players and parents, during the summer months and this tradition
has carried on to this day. The closing date
for entry for this year's event is 16th of May, with age groups of Under 7 to
Under 12 inclusive. Entry Forms can be found by clicking

is done mainly at night when the roads can be closed off . According to a spokesperson
for the works, it will be another month before massive metal beams, which are
held together with countless bolts, are in place. Source Northside People For

Fingal Beat of Local Rivals
Sporting
Fingal beat local rivals Shelbourne in an exciting derby encounter at Morton Stadium
Santry last Friday to continue their rise up the Division 1 table into second
place.
In a very
competitive and sometimes tempestuous game, Fingal scored their 1st goal and ultimately
the winning goal in the 39 minute. When Alan Kirby put through Zayed after he
had cut through the Shelbourne defence. Zayed then slotted the ball passed the
Shelbourne Keeper. Both
sides had a number of good chances after the 1st goal with both Robert Balyly
and Kirby having chances to double Fingal's lead. But in the end the one goal
was enough to ensure the win for the home side. The
win elevates Fingal into 2nd place in the division they now lead Waterford on
goal difference and are 2 points behind division leaders UCD. Fingal's
next game is away to Longford on the 25th and the next home game is against Limerick

Sporting
Fingal Bounce Back to 3rd Spot After
a disappointing start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Wexford in their 1st
game followed by losing to UCD at home 1-0. Local Team Sporting Fingal have come
back on forum with two wins in a row firstly beating Wexford youths 2-0 with goals
from former Drogheda striker Eamon Zayed and Conan Byrne.
Then
last weekend Fingal recorded a record victory against Kildare town at Kildare's
home ground Station Road thumping them to a 8-0 defeat Kildare's biggest ever
home defeat. Fingal players Eamon Zayed, Shaun Williams and Conan Byrne all scored
two goals each and In fairness it could have being more with the inexperienced
Kildare Town defence being tormented by the Fingal forwards all night. It was
a baptism of fire for two of Kildare's centre halves who were playing their first
league of Ireland game. The result
lifts Sporting Fingal to third place in the First Division after their 1st three
games. Now they need to try to cement their recent run of results and get a result
against Finn Harps at Morton Stadium on Friday. The game kicks off at 7:45pm with
tickets costing 12 Euros for adults, 20 Euros for a family ticket and 5 Euros
for concessions (OAPs , Children) Website:

Are 'Gutted' Over Pub Redevelopment Decision
SANTRY
residents are fuming after An Bord Pleanala gave the green light for a landmark
Northside pub to be demolished to make way for an apartment complex and shops
in their area.Despite fierce opposition from locals, the controversial development
will be constructed on the site of the Kilmardinny Inn on Lorcan Avenue. The
planning application, which was turned down by Dublin City Council on a number
of occasions, has now been approved subject to a number of conditions. The residents
have been vociferous in their protests since the proposal was first mooted and
are dismayed by the decision. Chairperson of the Lorcan Estate Residents' Association,
Austin McCoy, said the residents were gutted after six years of campaigning."We
are still hoping that there is a chance the plans will not go head," Mr McCoy
told Northside People."There has been a strength of local opposition to this plan
and we have received a lot of support from both TDs and councillors."I still believe
this project will seriously affect the local community, which consists of mostly
senior citizens."There are a number of grounds on which we objected to the proposal,
including the size and suitability to the local area."We don't feel that An Bord
Pleanala have dealt adequately with our complaints and now the plan will just
go ahead regardless of our concerns."Current plans include demolition and redevelopment
of the site, comprising a mixed development of 51 apartments, retail units, a
training centre and public house. An Bord Pleanala
said that due to the Z3 zoning of the site, the existing established uses on the
site and the pattern of development in the vicinity, it would not seriously injure
the amenities of the area or property in the vicinity.Cllr Declan Flanagan (FG)
said he was disappointed for those who have fought long and hard in their efforts
to ensure that planning permission would not be granted.Cllr Flanagan said he
had been hopeful in advance of the ruling that this "out of scale" project would
not get the green light by the planners. "I have been working very hard on this
issue over the past few years and am very disappointed with the decision made,"
he stated. "However, I have to accept the decision by An Bord Pleanála who are
independent and are the highest planning authority in the country."Artane ward
councillor Larry O'Toole (SF) said he shared the local community's frustration
at the decision to allow the development to go ahead."I sympathise with the local
residents in their frustration and anger," he told Northside People.""The Lorcan
residents feel that their concerns have not been listened to down through the
years."Northside People contacted the planning applicants but the person dealing
with the issue was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.

Trouble
Brewing at Milners Square Santry A
Development in Santry that was sold off the plans at the height of the property
boom has come unstuck as the developer, contractors and potential buyers plan
to take court action against each other over delays and breeches of various contracts.
Laragan Developments, part of the Roscommon-based Hanly Group, has filed more
than 40 High Court cases against buyers who refuse to complete on contracts. Separately,
a group of 25 buyers who paid €15,000 deposits on apartments in Milner's Square,
a 300-home complex in Santry, Dublin, are planning legal action against Laragan
for the return of their deposits on the unbuilt homes. Laragan said that the delay
in its Milner's Square development was connected to the termination of the employment
of Conneely Construction, its main contractor, "in favour of a fast track, precast
method of construction". It added that it had a policy of "providing whatever
assistance is required by customers in terms of mortgages, valuations, etc, to
help customers meet their obligations". Meanwhile Conneely Construction has separately
filed a High Court Case against Laragan over the company's termination of its
contract.

Part
of R132 (Swords Road) From Santry Village to Dardistown - Reinstatement of Cycle
Lane Road MarkingsHello all,
Please see the below
issue that I raised at a recent Council meeting. Please do not hesitate in contacting
me if I can be of any help on any issue. Question:
Councillor Darragh BUTLER: To ask the Manager to inspect the cycle lane that runs
between Santry Village and Dardistown that has dis-improved since past road works;
this cycle lane was not restored to its previous condition and now has a series
of bumpy tarmac strips that are causing punctures and discomfort to cyclists?”
Fingal County Council
reply: Part of the
R132 from the junction with Santry Avenue northwards is in the administrative
area of Fingal County Council. Part of the R132 southwards from the Santry Avenue
junction and including Santry Village is in the administrative area of Dublin
City Council. The
following excavations have taken place at a number of locations on part of the
R132 from north of the Santry Avenue junction to the Dardistown area as follows:
- Contractors
on behalf of Bord Gais and the ESB have excavated part of this stretch of road
in connection with the laying of underground services to facilitate the development
of Terminal 2 on Dublin Airport Authority lands.
- The
Water Services Department of the Council has excavated part of this stretch of
road in the area of Dardistown at the entrance to Quickpark in the laying of underground
services.
The
Transportation Department is monitoring this matter in the context of the road
surface and road markings being satisfactorily restored at the earliest possible
date. In addition, any other necessary remedial works to the road surface on this
stretch of road will be undertaken as the need arises. .
I will continue to follow up on this issue and please do not hesitate in contacting
me if I can be of any assistance on any issue. Best
regards, Councillor Darragh BUTLER (Fianna Fáil) - Fingal County Council,

Trial Run for Santry European Cross Country Championship
2009 As reported previously on this website a lot
of preparation work has already being done for the European Cross Country Championships
2009 that are due to be held in Santry Demesne in December of this year. In what
should be the highlight of the year for Irish athletics when hundreds of athletes
from all over Europe will converge on Dublin for this event. On
Sunday March the 1st another big step was taken in these preparations when the
Woodie's DIY Inter Club Cross Country Championships was run over the same course
to be used in December. This was seen as a dry run for the event in December with
athletes going through the same processes that will take place then, Including
competitors wearing the same special time tags that will be used in December that
produce instant results as they cross the line. On
the day Keith Kelly from Drogheda & District AC won his first national inter club
cross country title at the age of 31 with a great performance and a time of 38:19
over the 12K course in the senior men's race, while Maria McCambridge from Letterkenny

Kevin's Football Club Link up with Liverpool FC
Local
Football Club St Kevin's, official launched their link up with Liverpool FC at
their Club House on Shanowen Road Santry on Thursday evening the 12th of February.
Liverpool Assistant Academy Director Stuart Gelling was in attendance along with
Liverpool legend and football pundit John Alderige and Ken Donohoe director of
football at St Kevins. As part of the partnership
Liverpool will be sending teams of their coaches over to St Kevins on a regular
basis throughout the season. A number of St Kevins coaches will also be travelling
to Liverpool to be involved in coaching there, as well as taking part in Liverpool
in-house coaching days. St Kevins will also host a soccer school which Liverpool
will underwrite financially and also supply a team of coaches for, which will
take place in July 2009. Liverpool's interest
in signing this link with St Kevin in part probably comes from St Kevins impressive
history of exports to the English game, which includes such football stars as
Liam Brady, Damien Duff, Ian Harte, Stephen Carr and Alan Maybury. Also Liverpool
would also be very aware of the St Kevin's current batch of talented players.
For example last season the club's under-15 Premier team contained no fewer than
ten Schoolboy Internationals seven of whom are now playing for professional clubs
in England and Scotland. Liverpool will be hoping channel some of this talent
to the club through the partnership with St Kevins in the coming years. The
publicity of this link is sure to help attract new young talented players to the
club who will see it as a possible way to play for one of the biggest and most
popular clubs in the English Premiership. Click

Lidl Store set to open beside Northwood Santry A
New Scheme by Lidl Ireland has just being granted planning permission by Fingal
County Council. This development is located just beside Northwood Santry and just
off the Ballymun Road (R108) and will be in close proximity to the new IKEA store
due to open in July this year. The scheme will
be anchored by the Lidl store and will consist of the Lidl store, three other
retail units and a cafe. Above the retail there will be also a number of Apartments
and to the north of the site there are plans for two four storey office blocks
of 3,303 sq.m. area. In the current economic
climate one might think that if there was no Lidl element within the scheme it
would be unlikely that the scheme would go ahead at present. However one would
guess that Lidl will be still anxious to go ahead with the scheme, since discount
stores are one of the few areas of the economy, which are actually still growing
both in their market share and sales at present. Back

Ben
Dunne Lodges Appeal Against Planning Permission for New TLC Centre As
we reported back in December, Fingal country council recently granted planning
permission for a new TLC nursing home in Northwood Santry. However the plans to
build the new nursing home have now being put on hold as Ben Dunne this week lodged
an appeal to An Board Pleanala against Fingal's county council's decision. Mr
Dunne, who owns Northwood Gym beside the proposed site for nursing home, will
probably object to the plan on the same grounds he original objected to the original
planning application to Fingal. This included the size of development, transport
concerns and health and safety issues. It will probably take An Board Pleanala
up to six month to make a decision on the appeal, we will of course we will keep
you posted. Back to Top IKEA
Store Set to Open Early Summer Hints Chief
According
to IKEA's Chief Anders Dahlvig in comments in the Irish Times Newspaper this week.
IKEA now hope to open their new store at Ballymun early in the summer this year.
According to Mr Dehlvig the store itself will be ready for operation in a month
but because the upgrade works at the Ballymun Interchange of the M50 have not
being completed by the NRA it will be left to stand Idle. One
of the original conditions of planning permission being granted for the Store
by An Board Pleanala was that the upgrade works were to be completed at this interchange
before the store opened to cope with the extra traffic volumes expected. IKEA
have being strongly critical of the NRA for delaying the opening but the NRA has
hit back in the past saying that they will not be dictated to by one interest
group or party and will complete works under it original plan of works and timelines.
However Local TD
Fintan McGrath has now joined the debate, saying that in the present economic
circumstances the 500 jobs to be crested at the Store are badly needed and the
NRA has to be more flexible, he has stated that the Government should intervene
to get store opened as soon as possible In
the mean time IKEA is launching a recruitment drive for workers for the new Dublin
store. http://www.ikea.ie/recruitment/

Fingal FC launches Scholarship Scheme Sporting
Fingal FC launches Scholarship Scheme Back in December Sporting Fingal took another
step in its continuing development by announcing the launch of a Third Level scholarship
scheme for players attached to the club.
The
Scheme, which will commence in the 2009/2010 Academic year, will enable players
attached to Sporting Fingal to apply for Sports Scholarships with either Dublin
City University or the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown. Through
the Scheme, which is supported by the Dublin Airport Authority, Sporting Fingal
F.C. will assist players who wish to develop a Third Level qualification while
simultaneously pursuing a professional football career. Sporting
Fingal recently completed a very promising first year in the 1st Division of the
Eircom League of Ireland, managing to finish third in the league following an
exciting chase for promotion and getting to the quarter finals of the FAI Ford
Cup where they lost to local Premier Division rivals St Patrick's Athletic.
It is hoped that this development will help make Sporting Fingal a stronger force
in Irish Football the coming years as well as offering new opportunities for its
players both on and off the field. Back
